Marco Morelli joins the World Championship team until the end of the season
Argentinian rider Marco Morelli, who is currently competing with us in the FIM JuniorGP, will step up to the World Championship team from the next Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and remain with us until the end of the season, with the exception of Misano, where he will contest the final two rounds of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
Next week, Morelli will get on the Honda and reunite with familiar faces, as he will once again share a garage with Eddie O’Shea. The pair were previously team-mates when O’Shea raced in the FIM JuniorGP and Morelli in the European Talent Cup, both riding for the GRYD MLav Racing Junior Team.
The young rider arrives in excellent form. After leading much of the second FIM JuniorGP race at MotorLand Aragón, he went on to secure a podium finish in third place. He currently sits sixth in the overall standings with 54 points.
Morelli is also competing in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, where he claimed a podium in the most recent round in Austria. He also holds sixth place in the championship standings, with a total of 100 points. The Argentinian will complete the final two races of this series, meaning he will be replaced at the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino by British rider Evan Belford, his current team-mate in the FIM JuniorGP.
This will not be Morelli’s first taste of the World Championship. Earlier this season, he made his debut in Moto3 with the Spanish team DENSSI Racing-BOE Motorsports, qualifying on the third row of the grid and finishing 13th, scoring his first three World Championship points.
Marco Morelli: “I am very happy to have this opportunity. For me, it is a big challenge that will allow me to gain experience in the World Championship. I am really looking forward to making my debut in Barcelona with the team and to experiencing the flyaway rounds. I will give my 100%, and together with the team, we will work as hard as possible to give our very best.”
The team not only welcomes Morelli into its World Championship structure, but also embarks on an internal reorganisation that will take effect from Montmeló onwards. The aim of this change is to bring a fresh perspective that will enable us to develop and improve as we head into the second half of the season.
Macauley Webb -Team Manager: “We are thrilled to welcome a familiar face and well valued member of the MLav Racing Team, Marco Morelli. After three exciting seasons spent together we’re proud of all we have achieved and even more excited about what lies ahead. Marco brings fresh energy into the team, and alongside our internal restructuring, we are ready to kick off a new era for MLav Racing and showcase our true potential.”
