Argentina Grand Prix – Race Report

 In Moto3

A bittersweet weekend for the GRYD-MLav Racing riders in Termas de Río Hondo. Eddie saw the checkered flag for the first time this year by producing a strong race. However, Marcos did not finish it crashing at the eleventh lap, and a fracture in his right wrist will make him miss the next round.

Marcos Uriarte and Eddie O’Shea started the race by battling both in the third group, alongside Cormac Buchanan (BOE Motorsports), Joel Esteban (Red Bull KTM Tech 3), Ruche Moodley (BOE Motorsports), Jakob Rosenthaler (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) and Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia).

In the second half of the race, O’Shea struggled with a grip as the SC1 tyre dropped off and crossed the finish line in seventeenth place. Just two positions outside the points.

Uriarte, who started eighteenth, had a good pace but, unfortunately, crashed seven laps before the race finished. Although he walked away from the crash, a visit to the Medical Centre has shown that he had a fracture to his right wrist. Uriarte will miss the Americas Grand Prix and will need to wait for further assessments in Spain to get a recovery time.

EDDIE O’SHEA:Overall, it was a very good weekend with many positives to take from it. For the first time this year, we finally saw the chequered flag and completed every lap of the race. We were struggling from the beginning of the weekend with lack of rear tyre grip, so for the race we made a big change which helped a lot in the first laps. However, we used the soft tyre in the race, and ultimately it didn’t last as well as we thought it would with the new setting. Now, one week back at home and then off to the USA!

MARCOS URIARTE: I’m happy with all the work that we have done over this weekend. The pace was good but, unfortunately, we crashed. Now it is time to fly to Barcelona for another medical check and work on the recovery to try to arrive in Qatar in the best shape possible.

JORDAN PRITCHARD (Team Coordinator): We are really pleased with how the team is working. Both riders have had lots to work on this weekend and have gone about it in a good way. Although Eddie struggled with grip, he still did a decent finish close to the points. A big shame for Marcos, who could not finish the race after the crash, but we can be happy with the way we are working.

Now, it’s time to focus on the Americas Grand Prix in two weeks time.
